CBS: A Rant

This is somewhat connected to the previous post that DoubleBitch made. If you look at those ratings that were posted, you’ll see that CBS is pulling in the best average ratings for the season by a fairly wide margin. And why not? CBS has some great shows, like off the top of my head How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory.

cbsYou know what? Let’s take a look at the official CBS schedule, and see exactly what all the other great shows are that rocket them to the top of the ratings charts! Okay, there’s…. um… well I guess that’s pretty… no that sucks too, I was mistaking it for a different show. But they do have… wow, that’s still on? Who even watches Survivor anymore? Other than their Monday comedy lineup, all they have are a bunch of similar, detectivey shows and some terribly dated reality shows.

Okay, why is this the top dog of network television? WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE WANT TO WATCH THIS? From a creative standpoint, CBS is a vapid black hole. Not just any old black hole either, but one filled with diphtheria, baby vomit and crazed antlions. And people mock the CW’s lineup?

Maybe it’s that CBS sucks so much, they’ve gone past bad and back to good? Perhaps millions of hipsters are tuning into Criminal Minds every week ironically? Is NCIS held afloat by a devoted Dark Angel fanbase? 2/21 is not a good percentage, no matter how much I like those two shows.
