Sesame Street Turns 40

Next Tuesday, the characters of Sesame Street will celebrate their 40th and respectively static birthdays as they gear up for yet another season.  So much has changed over the years, and though our beloved Canadian version can now only be seen behind glass at the CBC Museum, it still stays the same old characters and same old show we loved.

I ran across an amazing interview with the man behind Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch earlier this week. Caroll Spiney will be turning 76 this year and still gets inside the giant costume.  He holds up BigBird’s 4.5 lbs head for hours at a time.  I think that’s pretty damn amazing.

So in honour of the big 4-0, and their 4187th episode, I thought I’d run down a couple of my favorite skits/songs.

Hands down the Wubba-Wubba ‘Monster Song’ is my favorite of all time.

“Do De Rubber Duck”

And finally, I used this Sesame Street TV Movie in a grade 11 History class presentation.
Cookie Monster and the gang to to a museum in “Don’t Eat the Pictures” (part 1 of 8)

So mark it down on your calendars November 10th is Sesame Street’s Birthday.  It should be easy to remember, only six days before JerkDoubleBitch’s birthday too!

P.S. Remember you can embed videos in the comments, so leave us your favorites!

  1. Do the Rubber Duck always was and will probably remain my favourite Sesame Street Skit ever.

  2. Sadly, he doesn’t care about how much he embarrasses himself, he just wants the attention and the “fame” that comes along with it. The REALLY sad thing, is that this soul-sucking plan actually works. .
