Spartacus Season One Complete!

Okay, the show may have been a little slow to grow on me but by the end, holy crap! It’s been almost a week since I watched the season finale and it’s still on my mind, so I felt that a post was required. It was easily one of the most satisfying and definite season finales I’ve seen, to the point where it will be a completely different show next season. Alliances change, people (many, many people) die, and even the very setting of the show can’t remain the same after this.

Most shows will have various tertiary plot threads that get forgotten about over the course of a season. Sometimes characters just stop being there, or a little bit of personal history will be retconned when the writers come up with a better storyline. Not so with Spartacus, everything that occurred in the season has been resolved by the time the credits roll on the thirteenth episode.

It was an amazing finale that would have worked just fine as a series finale, but also opens some interesting avenues for the second season’s arc to follow. By the end, Spartacus had become not just a guilty pleasure full of sex and violence, but a very solid little drama.
