Lionel is a Slut

I think really, if we’re to get anything out of the past ten years of Smallville, it is this: Lionel Luthor is a man whore.  I suppose he IS evil and a man with money, which our pop culture and society lead us to believe equals or at least excuses promiscuity, so we shouldn’t be too surprised.  There was Lex and his dead baby brother.. that did happen right? and then that one brother that died pretty promptly and now, the latest addition to the Luthor clan, Tess.

This is the last nail in the ‘we had no idea what to do with this character/who she was we just needed someone to replace Rosenbaum’ coffin.  I’ve always thought Cassidy Freeman filled the shoes quite nicely.  She’s got the delicate intricacies to her character that always made Rosenbaum stand out in the cast.  It’s just too bad that the writers fired their continuity guy for that new latte machine.

Tess being a Luthor makes no fucking sense.  I don’t like to swear here but it doesn’t. Let’s break it down: First we’re lead to believe that her parents were terrible people.  She was raised in a swamp shack with a father who abused her and she never learned to read.  Then there was that time she was in love with/obsessed with Lex… the whole camera thing.. pretty sure he watched his sister get undressed.  Even more recently she tried to adopt her brother’s clone as her son. Let’s not forget she’s died and burned half her face off recently too.  Now we hear she went to the orphanage, trained to be a ninja then her parents took her back… then I guess she decided to be a marine biologist and got stuck on an island with Oliver Queen… then became Lex’s replacement, took over the Daily planet.. was a checkmate agent and now is Watchtower and Lionel’s secret love child.

WHAT?!

Am I missing something here?  WTF is going on?!

One Response to “Lionel is a Slut”

  1. I stopped caring about Smallville so long ago for pretty much this reason – they create potentially interesting characters … and then lose their minds. Lionel was a great villain, until they made him crazy. Tess had potential, but it was pretty clear from the beginning they had no idea what to do with her. Hubby still watches the show because he’s an uber Superman geek, but the only time I care is when Ollie is around. And even then it’s questionable, depending on what they’re doing with/to him at the time.

This is a prime example of a show that has outlived its usefulness.
