7 Reasons to Watch Law & Order UK

law_and_oder_uk_027. Law & Order UK is a plain old ordinary Law & Order. It’s gone back to the style of here’s a problem now lets solve it, as opposed to branches off like SVU.  SVU disturbs me and the characters no longer interest me.  I can’t say I’m a die hard L&O fan but I’m glad to see them go back to a more ‘general’ style, using the show as the gimmick and not sex.

6. Sweet Accents and Lingo. At one point Jamie Bamber stumbles through some French and comments on how it made him look like a tit.  I enjoyed that a little too much.  “Birds and Blokes” and all that kinda fun stuff.  If you’re from the UK this probably reads really stupidly but anybody on this half of the world might get a kick out of it.

5. Location, Location, Location! The show is shot around London and you can catch some places you might recognize if you’ve spent any time there.  It also features some really beautiful buildings that make for great shots.

4. Dead Babies. Everybody loves a good dead baby, usually in joke form and this show delivers within the first few minutes.  You even get to see it.

3.  The Theme Song. It starts out with the whole speech “In the criminal justice system…” and even uses the JUNGCHA! scene change sound effect but the theme song is new.  It’s a decent theme song but the fact that it’s not what you’re expecting is kinda shocking and a little exciting.  Check it out.

2.  Jamie Bamber. Yes, you probably thought this would be reason #1 and it’s not but it’s still a great reason.  We all love Jamie Bamber from Battlestar Galactica, he’s easy on the eyes and it’s just fun to hear him speak with his natural accent.  The cast in its entirety is great.  They’re likable, smart and believable in their roles.  I like that British TV is sometimes less vain when it comes to casting their roles.  Not to say the cast isn’t attractive but they’re mature and they work well together.

uk11. Awesome Wigs of Justice. I probably should have known this was coming but I was still surprised when they cut to the courtroom shot and the lawyers, judge and I think even the stenographer were all wearing sweet wigs of justice.  I wish they did this on the American versions of the shows.  It just adds a little spice to my eye and keeps the sometimes bland or dark scenes a little more enjoyable.

Law & Order UK started airing last week.  Use the internet, dig around.  You’ll find it.  It’s worth the watch.
